In March 2007, the House of Representatives introduced the STRIVE Act, legislation intended to provide a solution for
the United States' broken immigration system. While not wholly ideal, the act does provide increased channels for workers
and their families to live legally in the United States and offers a path to citizenship for undocumented workers who pay back taxes and
fines and maintain consistent employment for six years. The Senate has also been working on an immigration reform bill, but
negotiations on the bill's measures broke down in mid-July. Senator Specter is encouraging his colleagues to pick up the discussion again
soon. Read
Senator Specter's statement.
Now, more than ever, our Senators and Representatives need to hear from us to know
that we want the issue of immigration to be addressed. Last year, Congress failed to act, allowing negotiations
to break down completely before a bill could be put to the floor for a vote. We cannot let this happen again this year--too many immigrants
remain separated from their family members, exploited by employers, and prevented from ever obtaining legal status in the United States
due to the incredibly
small number of visas allotted to foreign workers despite the high demand for their labor. Visas are also increasingly hard
to come by for immediate relatives of legal permanent residents and U.S. citizens. For more information on family
immigration issues, visit

Please call or write to your state senators and representatives today to express
your support for comprehensive immigration reform. Our congresspersons consistently receive more phone calls and letters
from anti-immigrant activists, so your contact is important.

refer to our
immigration reform overview. For talking points, refer to the
sample fax/email that we have prepared.
To contact Senator Specter or Senator Casey, see the information listed below. For other Senators, visit the
Senate website for contact information. Please also
contact your Representatives and ask
them to support a bill that increases the legal channels through which immigrants may enter our country.
When you call, tell the staffer you would like to register your opinion on the
issue of immigration reform; the staffer will ask for your name, zip code, and statement.
